The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is the best trek to see awesome Himalayan views in under a week. If you have limited time in Nepal, or do not have the energy or interest to do some high alpine trekking, take our Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Within a few days of arriving at the trail head, stand at Poon Hill (3,210 meters) and stare at a panoramic view of some of the highest peaks in the world.
Before the trekking, enjoy a day in Pokhara – an adventure lover’s paradise. The city lies next to Phewa Lake, enveloped by lush trees. The pure air is quite a refreshment after spending some days in Kathmandu. Wander around lakeside and enjoy the laidback vibes of Pokhara before beginning the trek the following day.
Embark on the adventure from Nayapul and follow the streams past terraced hillsides and villages. Admire the typical lifestyle found in the foothills of the massive Himalayas. Ascend through rhododendron and bamboo forests. If you come during the spring, you are in for a treat. Nepal’s national flower, the rhododendron, turns a hot red/pink color, which contrasts all colors in the area.
Soon enough, you reach Ghorepani. The next morning, we wake up before the sun rises to try and watch the first light of the day strike the Himalayas. It is an unforgettable moment! From the top, enjoy incredible views of Annapurna (8,091m), Hiuchuli (6,441m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Manaslu (8,156m) and other nearby white peaks.
Besides the view at Poon Hill, another highlight of the trek is spending time in Ghandruk – the second largest Gurung settlement in Nepal. Staying in the local village, you will learn about Gurung culture and tradition. If you have interest, there are two Gurung museums in the village, which are fascinating to explore. Meanwhile, enjoy the amazing sight of mountains from right there in the village. Descend back to Nayapul and enjoy one last night in Pokhara before moving back to Kathmandu.
Outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and abilities should take the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek! In fact, you do not need any previous trekking experience to join this marvelous excursion. The trail reaches a maximum altitude 3,210 meters. With several days to acclimatize, this altitude should be no problem. The only struggle is the steep climb up to Poon Hill viewpoint, but takes your time during these moments.
You can take the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek all throughout the year. The best times to make the trip, though, are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These seasons provide the best weather and clearest skies, not to mention that during the springtime, rhododendron and other alpine flowers are in bloom. Third Eye Adventure Pvt. Ltd. handles the trek with complete management. If you have any questions about the trek, do ask!
