Is It Worthy Going Lake Rara?

Lake Rara is a stunning high-altitude freshwater lake nestled in the heart of the Nepalese Himalayas. So, What is the best time to visit Rara Lake? First of all, we’ll know more about the rare lakes. Its crystal-clear waters, breathtaking scenery, and natural wildlife make it a popular destination for hikers, adventure-seekers, and nature lovers alike. From our perspective, it is worth going to lake rare for some memorable scenarios.

The lake is located within the boundaries of Rara National Park, stretching over 106 km2 (41 sq mi) across the Jumla and Mugu districts of Karnali Province. It is the largest lake in the Himalayas, with a water surface of 10.8 km2 (4.2 sq mi) and a maximum depth of 167 m (548 ft). Its length is 5.1 km (3.2 mi) and it is 2.7 km (1.7 mi) wide which drains into the Mugu Karnali River via the Nijar River.

Rara Lake is a breathtaking sight and one of the most popular and beautiful places to visit in the Nepalese Himalayas. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply looking for picturesque views, Rara Lake is an ideal destination for your next outdoor adventure.

Best Time To Visit Rara Lake For Foreigners

Rara Lake is most beautiful in the spring season from March through May. The weather is mild and the sky is clear, and rhododendrons are blooming on the mountain trails, creating a picturesque view. From the tower, which is a two-hour hike above the lake, you can see a breathtaking view of the lake. Moreover, Spring is also the perfect time to trek, drive, fly, or take a bus or jeep.

Alternatively, the autumn season, between September and November, is another great time to visit Rara Lake. The monsoon has ended and winter is not yet here. There are no clouds and the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. During this time, you can trek, drive, and fly.

No matter when you visit Rara Lake, the beauty of it will surely take your breath away. Whether you choose to fly, trek, drive or take a bus or jeep ride, you can be sure that you will have an unforgettable experience. The best way to experience the beauty of this lake is to take a boat ride in the lake and admire the stunning landscape. So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and come visit Rara Lake.

Rara Lake Costs & Permits For US Citizens

Getting to Rara Lake requires a permit, which can be obtained from the national park checkpoint. You can also get the permit from Kathmandu before your departure. The fee depends on your nationality. Non-SAARC countries like the United States, and the United Kingdom, pay USD 30 plus 13 % government tax, bringing the total to USD $34. SAARC members pay a lower fee and Nepalese citizens do not need permits.

Once you have your permit, you’re ready to explore Rara Lake. You can enjoy a variety of activities here, including boating, fishing, and swimming. The scenery of the lake is simply breathtaking, with calm, clear waters surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush green meadows, and thick forests.

Aside from the lake, the park offers the opportunity to hike to its nearby hills. The hiking trails give you an excellent chance to explore the park, its unique flora and fauna, and the lake itself. In addition to rhododendrons, the park is home to Himalayan Tahr, musk deer, and the endangered snow leopard.
