Best Time for the Jomsom Muktinath Trek
This trek has a wider trekking window than many others in Nepal.
- Autumn (September - November) & Spring (March - May): These are the best seasons. The skies are clear, the views are sharp, and the weather is pleasant for walking.
- Monsoon (June - August): This area is in a "rain shadow," meaning it gets very little rain. This makes it one of the few treks in Nepal that is excellent to do during the summer monsoon season.
A Typical Day on Your Trek
- Morning: Your days often start early to avoid the afternoon winds. After breakfast at the teahouse, you will begin walking with your guide around 7:30 AM.
- Trekking: The walking is steady, mostly on wide, open trails. The main challenge is the strong wind that often picks up in the Kali Gandaki valley after 11:00 AM.
- Lunch: You will stop for lunch at a teahouse in one of the small villages along the way.
- Afternoon: You will usually reach your destination for the day by early afternoon. This gives you time to explore the unique villages like Kagbeni or the temple area in Muktinath.
- Evening: You can relax in the teahouse dining hall. Dinner is served around 7:00 PM. Your guide will tell you about the plan for the next day.

Trek Difficulty: Is This Trek for You?
This trek is rated as easy to moderate. It is perfect for people of all ages with a basic level of fitness. The daily walking hours are short, between 3 to 5 hours.
The main challenges are the altitude at Muktinath and the strong afternoon winds in the valley. There are no long, steep climbs like on other treks. This trip is great for families and those more interested in culture and scenery than a hard physical challenge.
Food and Lodging on the Trek
- Teahouses: You will stay in local teahouses in Kagbeni, Muktinath, and Jomsom. These are lodges with simple, clean rooms and a dining hall. They are quite comfortable in this region.
