    About Trip

The Jomsom Muktinath Trek: An 8-Day Guide

You want to see the unique, desert-like landscapes of the Mustang region in Nepal. You dream of visiting the holy temple of Muktinath, a sacred place for millions. But you may not have the time or desire for a long, two-week trek through the mountains.

Imagine taking a thrilling flight directly into the heart of the world's deepest gorge. You walk through a dry, windy valley that looks like the Tibetan plateau. You visit ancient villages and arrive at the beautiful Muktinath Temple, feeling a great sense of peace. You get to do all this with just a few days of moderate walking.

Our 8-day Jomsom Muktinath Trek is the perfect solution. This trip uses a scenic flight to take you deep into the Kali Gandaki valley. It allows you to experience the amazing scenery and visit the sacred Muktinath temple without a long and difficult trek. It is a spiritual and scenic journey made easy.

Best Time for the Jomsom Muktinath Trek

This trek has a wider trekking window than many others in Nepal.

    • Autumn (September - November) & Spring (March - May): These are the best seasons. The skies are clear, the views are sharp, and the weather is pleasant for walking.
    • Monsoon (June - August): This area is in a "rain shadow," meaning it gets very little rain. This makes it one of the few treks in Nepal that is excellent to do during the summer monsoon season.

A Typical Day on Your Trek

    • Morning: Your days often start early to avoid the afternoon winds. After breakfast at the teahouse, you will begin walking with your guide around 7:30 AM.
    • Trekking: The walking is steady, mostly on wide, open trails. The main challenge is the strong wind that often picks up in the Kali Gandaki valley after 11:00 AM.
    • Lunch: You will stop for lunch at a teahouse in one of the small villages along the way.
    • Afternoon: You will usually reach your destination for the day by early afternoon. This gives you time to explore the unique villages like Kagbeni or the temple area in Muktinath.
    • Evening: You can relax in the teahouse dining hall. Dinner is served around 7:00 PM. Your guide will tell you about the plan for the next day.

Meet Your Guide and Porter Team

You will have a professional and friendly team to support you.

    • Your Expert Guide: All our guides are local to Nepal. They are trained, licensed, and speak English. They are experts on this trail and the unique culture of the Mustang region. Each guide is also trained in first aid.
    • Your Strong Porter: We hire friendly local porters who are fit and reliable. One porter will carry the main bags for two trekkers. This lets you walk with just a small daypack for your daily items.
    • Our Team's Care: We are committed to the welfare of our team. We make sure all our guides and porters get fair pay, good food, and proper lodging. We also provide them with good insurance coverage.

    Safety on Your Trek

Your safety is our top priority.

    • Altitude: This trek reaches a moderate altitude of 3,800 meters at Muktinath. The risk of serious altitude sickness is low. Our itinerary helps you adjust by stopping in Kagbeni before ascending.
    • Mountain Flights: The flights to and from Jomsom are weather dependent. Airlines have strict safety standards and will only fly in safe conditions. Delays are possible.
    • First Aid: Your guide carries a complete first-aid kit for common issues like cuts, blisters, and headaches.

Trek Difficulty: Is This Trek for You?

This trek is rated as easy to moderate. It is perfect for people of all ages with a basic level of fitness. The daily walking hours are short, between 3 to 5 hours.

The main challenges are the altitude at Muktinath and the strong afternoon winds in the valley. There are no long, steep climbs like on other treks. This trip is great for families and those more interested in culture and scenery than a hard physical challenge.

Food and Lodging on the Trek

    • Teahouses: You will stay in local teahouses in Kagbeni, Muktinath, and Jomsom. These are lodges with simple, clean rooms and a dining hall. They are quite comfortable in this region.
    • Meals: We provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day on the trail. The food is fresh and tasty. You will find Dal Bhat, noodles, potatoes, and even apple pie, as the region is famous for its apples.
