Pikey Peak Trek is located in the lower Everest region in Solukhumbu Area. The view of Mount Everest from the Pikey Peak area is alluring. The trekking route in this area is off the beaten path. 

Reaching up to the pikey peak and observing the stunning viewpoint is the ultimate best experience for trekkers. Sir Edmund Hillary has stated that it is his favorite trek destination, and the scenery from the peak is exceptional.

All eight (8000 m) peaks are observed from this peak point. They are: Mount Everest (8848 m), Makalu (8463 m), Lhotse(8414 m), Cho Oyu(8201 m) Manaslu (8163 m), Annapurna I (8091 m) and Dhaulagiri I (8167 m). 

This trek normally takes 6 to 7 days of duration of time to complete, while you can also complete this trek in 3 to 4 days if you need more time. There are several routes to reach the destination; depending on your choices, you can trek the destination.

It is a low-altitude trek. However, you will experience the 360-degree panorama of Everest and Annapurna mountain ranges. There are several trails linking to Peaky Peak. It is also one of the shortest treks.

Detailed Pikey Peak Trek Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to hotel

Welcome to the lap of the Himalayas, where nature’s beauty knows no bounds. After you arrive at the airport, our trekking agency staff will pick you up and take you to the hotel. You can rest in the hotel, and our team will be there for a short meeting regarding the Pikey Peak Trek.

We will finish the paperwork and then have a small party for your welcome at Thamel. Thamel is the main tourist hub which offers a wide variety of hotels, cafes, shops, and restaurants. Also, if you have anything remaining to buy for the trekking then you can buy from here.

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar (2850 meters),8 hours drive

Our trek journey begins by road, where we will ride for around 8 hours to reach Dhap Bazar. Once you’ve packed everything, our private vehicle will pick you up from your hotel, and we’ll head out of Kathmandu. First, few hours, you will follow the path of the highway then you will follow the path of the Sunkoshi River. During the ride, you can see the visitors enjoying the rafting in the Sunkoshi River.

Then you will reach the town of Okhaldhunga, from where you will ride for 3 hours to Dhap. During this scenic drive, you will pass through several villages, lush forests, terraced rice fields, and numerous gushing rivers. The road condition is quite good, and after you reach Dhap, you will stay overnight there.

Day 03: Trek from Dhap Bazaar to Japre (2815 meters), 4-5 hours walk

Today, your trekking journey starts after having a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Then, packing your backpack, you will walk on the dusty road until you reach the village of Sigane. During the walk toward the Sigane, you can see the magnificent view of the Numbur Himal range.

Then, continuing the walk for a few hours, you will reach the small village of Jhapre. Then, reaching the Jhapre, you can see the first view of MT. Everest(8848m). You will stay overnight in the Jhapre, and also you can explore the Buddhist Monastery and stupa after you reach Japre.

Day 04: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp (3640 meters), 5-6 hours walk

Early in the morning, you can see the snowcapped mountain’s breathing transformation by the sun’s golden rays. We will wake early for this beautiful view, and after having breakfast, we will prepare for today’s journey. Then, leaving the Jhapre, you will walk through a dusty road for some time, climb uphill, and walk through the rhododendron forest until you reach Bhulbule. 

After reaching the Bhulbule, you will find the trail splits, and we will follow the right path, which leads toward Pikey Peak. We will continue the journey to the hillside below Taklung Danda and walk through the forest. The trail path becomes more beautiful during the spring season due to the blossom of the Rhododendron flower. After we pass through the forest, we will walk for a further 2 hours to reach Pikey Base Camp.

Day 05: Trek from Pikey Base Camp to Pikey Peak (4065 meters) to Jase Bhanjyang (3520 meters), 4-5 hours walk

Today, we will trek early for the eye-catching sunrise view of the mountains. The path is short and ascending straightforward to reach the summit of Pikey Peak. After sunrise, you can see the breathtaking views of Mt. Thamserku(6623m). 

Then after turning the corner you can see the stunning panoramic views of the mountain peaks like Mt. Everest (8848.86m), Number Chuli (6959m), Thamserku (6608m), Kangtega (6685m), Khatang (6853m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Manaslu (8163m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Gaurishankar (7134m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m), and Langtang (7246m). 

After spending a wonderful time at the summit and taking pictures, we will follow the descending path of Jase Bhanjyang. Then, walking for a few hours, we will reach Base Camp to stay overnight there.

Day 06: Trek from Jase Bhanjyang to Junbesi (2680 meters), Walking Duration 5-6 hours walk

Today, after having breakfast, we will begin to trek downhill. You will pass through the forest and meadow until you reach Taktor village. Then, after reaching this small village, you will rest for a little while and then have lunch. Many well-equipped tea houses and lodges are here as this path joins the main EBC trail coming from Jiri. 

Then, walking for a few hours on the wide dirt road, we will reach Junbeshi. You can explore Buddhist monasteries and surrounding places once you reach here. This place is mainly inhabited by Sherpa, Magar, and Tamang people where you can experience their unique culture and traditions.

Day 07: Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu (2380 meters),5-6 hours walk

The journey of the trekking comes to an end after you reach Phaplu. After having breakfast early in the morning, you will trek downhill along the side of Junbesi Khola’s. Keep walking, and you’ll come to a strong bridge made of steel. Once you cross it, you’ll arrive at Beni Ghat.

While continuing the journey with beautiful surroundings, you can explore the famous Chiwong Monastery. You will arrive in Phaplu at noon, so after lunch in Phaplu, you can also visit Salleri Bazer for Sightseeing. Then you will spend your night at Phaplu after having a delicious dinner at a tea house.

Day 08: Drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu (1350 meters), 9-10 hours drive

Today, you will take a long ride of 9-10 hours to reach Kathmandu. Your guide and porter will be there for your farewell early in the morning. Missing all the memories you made throughout the journey finally, you will reach Kathmandu. Then you will stay at the hotel overnight there.

Day 09: Final Departure

You will be taken to the airport as per your scheduled flight by our staff. You will finally say goodbye to this beautiful country. You can remember us if you ever plan to visit here for a trek, tour, or sightseeing.

Permit Information

Trekking in any conservation area or restricted area inside Nepal requires a permit. During the pikey peak trek, you will pass through the conservation area of Sagarmatha Region. Therefore, obtaining the permit before you begin your trek is necessary. You need to obtain two permits for this trek they are:

1. TIMS CARD(Trekkers’ Information Management System) .

2. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit.

Food and Accommodation

The tea houses along the Pikey Peak trek offer overnight accommodation. The tea houses are of a high standard, with facilities of hot showers, heaters, and attached bathrooms. However, you also can upgrade and get personalized service at additional prices. Importantly, there are few teahouses during the Jasmine Bhanjyang trip, and they only provide basic facilities. 

Throughout the trek, you’ll be provided with three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. These meals come with hot drinks like tea or coffee.

The tea houses have a variety of food dishes. The services are very basic and typical. They provide both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. However, the non-vegetarian dishes are limited.

Most popular foods such as momos, noodles, dal-bhat-curry, and eggs are available in this region. The total cost for food and accommodation will be around US $25 to US $30 per day. 

Pikey Peak Trek Difficulty

Pikey Peak Trek is not considered an extremely challenging trek. It is a moderate level of trekking. During the trek, steep and slippery paths are rarely found.

However, it requires a walk of 5 to 6 hours every day uphill and downhill. So, it will be tiring and exhausting. It is low-altitude trekking, attracting people with experience to zero or new. 

When to Visit Pikey Peak for Trek 

Spring and fall time is the best time to enjoy the Pikey Peak Trek. During this period, the weather is in stable condition. You will get to see breathtaking views and scenery. The vibrant rhododendron blooming all over the forests will enhance the beauty of the scenery. Snow Mountain, with its blue sky and colorful rhododendrons, is surely the best thing to observe. 

Autumn is also a fine time for trekking in Pikey Peak. Rainfall is rarely expected in this season. Winter is also considered for trekking in pikey peak, but the decrease in temperature makes it a little more cold. So, all the hikers shouldn’tshouldn’t head out and start hiking in winter.  

Summer season is not recommended to hike in pikey peak because the hike trails seem to be slick. The number of leeches in the jungle increased during this period. Therefore, trekking during the spring or fall is highly recommended to enjoy the trip to the fullest. 

Physical Requirement for Pikey Peak Trek

Besides being in the low-altitude trekking region, you must hike 5 – 6 hours daily. So, some non-experienced trekkers may face altitude sickness problems. 

Trekkers must be sure that they are physically and mentally prepared for the hike distance, duration, and altitude. For a successful trip, you better prepare yourself by exercising, jogging, swimming, and doing some leg exercises a few days before heading out for the trek.
