  • Nepal's biggest Lake Shey Phoksundo.
  • Caravan of Yaks, Sheeps, Mules.
  • Rich Culture of Tibetan influence.
  • Nomadic lifestyles of local.
  • Less beaten path with stunning landscape.
  • Three different high passes to cross.

Join us in the Dolpo district, characterized by mysterious landscapes – some of which seem as if they are from another planet. There are eye-popping contrasts in color, with rocky brown landmasses next to turquoise bodies of water, and grey hills next to patches of bright green oasis. Explore this hidden land for an unforgettable mystical experience. The allure of the Upper Dolpo Trek comes from how secluded it is, like a hidden and forbidden territory. In fact, for years foreigners were not allowed to enter. Still today, the area sees few tourists.

The Dolpo district is the largest in Nepal, though it is one of the most remote and least inhabited. It is possible to trek for several days without seeing another person. Local people of Dolpo live a traditional lifestyle, unaffected by modernity. They have ancestral roots in Tibet, with who they still have trade connections with today. They practice Bon Po religion, a religion somewhat rooted in Tibetan Buddhism with some ancient shamanistic influences.

The Upper Dolpo Trek might just be the most unique trek in the country. The unique culture and landscape can be found nowhere else on Earth. It is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in such a well-preserved place, away from outside influence. The beauty of this amazing adventure cannot be overstated. Trek begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Enjoy gorgeous mountain views from the window. Pass through forests and crop fields for the first few days. Soon, the trail turns north towards higher elevation. The vegetation and signs of any life become fewer and fewer. Enjoy views of the massive Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters), the seventh highest mountain in the world. Throughout the journey, revel in tons of mountain views, including the Annapurna, Manaslu, and Nilgiri ranges.

During the trek, you also traverse three mountain passes, Saldang La Pass (5,060m), Jyanta La Pass (5,220m), and Kang La Pass (5,380m), each equipped with mind-boggling views for kilometers. Even after the passes, the journey keeps getting better. Spend a night or two next to the majestic Shey Phoksundo Lake. The color of the lake is unbelievable, something that seems like it is out of a movie. You must see it to believe it. Another famous destination of the Upper Dolpo Trek is Shey Gompa, nestled in the sacred mountain Crystal Mountain.Like the Upper Mustang Trek, the Upper Dolpo Trek falls in a restricted area. There is a $500 fee for 10 days ($50 per day after). However, the experience you will have here is priceless. The beautiful people, the stunning mountains, and other worldly scenery will blow you away. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will make you never want to leave the mountain paradise. You can take the Upper Dolpo Trek all throughout the year. The best times to make the trip, though, are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These seasons provide the best weather and clearest skies, not to mention that during the springtime, beautiful flowers are in bloom. Third Eye Adventure Pvt. Ltd. handles the trek with complete management. If you have any questions about the trek, do ask!
