The Mohare Danda is a recently opened trail in the Annapurna region. You will find stunning mountain views along the trail, but it’s allure goes beyond the natural treasures along the route. The best part of the Mohare Danda Trek is the fact that it is virtually known to anyone except those who have trekked it. Even most people who live in Nepal have not heard of the trail! Most certainly you will see few other trekkers along the way. Because of this, you will be able to have a close connection with the locals and learn about their culture.
The trail is a steep climb up to Mohare Danda (3,300 meters), a picturesque opening that gives stunning mountain views. The route up is gorgeous by itself. Lush forests, expansive meadows, and rocky outcroppings characterize this wonderful trail. Stay in lovely lodges, owned and operated by locals. Try their local meals and even some special local drinks if they are available.
From the open meadow at Mohare Danda, enjoy an unbelievable mountain panorama. The breathtaking view of Annapurna I (8,091m), Dhaulagiri(8167m), Machhapuchre (6,997m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Nilgiri (6,820m) and Tukuche Peak (6,920m) is right before your eyes. Watch the sun rise and fall in front of and behind the colossal peaks. If you stay up late enough, you can see the Milky Way streaming across the sky.
One of the best parts of the Mohare Danda Trek is that you will be trekking with a purpose beyond your own. The trail is an Eco Community Lodge Trek and seeks to promote sustainable tourism. Besides the valuable cultural interaction between you and those who live in the lodge, you will be playing a vital role in helping their financial stability. Also, locals sell handmade handicrafts for trekkers to buy, if they tickle your fancy.
Eco-friendly practices like safe drinking water and micro-hydro electricity stations are being implemented in the villages along the route. Support these practices and the locals, while giving yourself a perfect Himalayan trek! The short trail is doable by trekkers of all experience levels.
Take the Mohare Danda Trek! The route is not commercialized, and most of the promotion has come from the community itself. Get an authentic taste of the mountain culture by learning about and spending time with the local Magar and Gurung ethnic groups.
You can take the Mohare Danda Trek all throughout the year. The best times to make the trip, though, are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These seasons provide the best weather and clearest skies, not to mention that during the springtime, rhododendron and other alpine flowers are in bloom. Third Eye Adventure Pvt. Ltd. handles the trek with complete management. If you have any questions about the trek, do ask!
