One amazing thing about Gosaikunda Lake is its spiritual significance. It is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. For Hindus, it is a pilgrimage destination during Janai Purnima festival, which takes place during the August full moon. During this time, hundreds of pilgrims from all parts of India and Nepal come to the lake for the festivities. During this time, Hindus take part in a ritualistic removal of the sacred Janai thread from their bodies and replace it with a new one while bathing in the pristine water. If you would like to witness or take part in this special festival, let us know and we will arrange for that!
The trek begins with a 7-8 hour drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Follow the trail up the Langtang River in admiration of the thriving landscape. Keep your eye out for some of the many animals found in the area, including the Red Panda. Also, appreciate the genuine hospitality from the Tamang people, natives of the area, and devotees of Tibetan Buddhism. Trekkers find them welcoming and very kind.
